The NAEMSP Quality Improvement Pre-Conference Workshop      $179

Designed for EMS quality leaders, medical directors and frontline clinicians who want to improve the clinical quality of their service and need tools to be more effective, the NAEMSP Quality and Safety course applies the lessons of healthcare improvement to the challenges of out-of-hospital care. This introductory course teaches the tenets of improvement science and how to practically apply these lessons to EMS agencies, larger EMS systems or a state-wide effort.

Brooke Burton, NRP, FACPE, FAEMS
Quality Improvement/Controlled Substance Manager, Unified Fire Authority

Brooke is the Quality Improvement Leader for Unified Fire Authority in Salt Lake County, UT and has 29 years of EMS experience working as a paramedic in rural to urban environments. Brooke serves on advisory boards for the International Journal of Paramedicine (IJOP), the National EMS Information System (NEMSIS), and EMS World magazine, is the President of the National EMS Management Association (NEMSMA), President-elect of the National EMS Quality Alliance (NEMSQA), and faculty for several national EMS Leadership and Quality programs. Brooke was the recipient of the American Ambulance Association 2016 award for Best Quality Improvement Program and is a nationally known writer, researcher, and speaker on EMS quality and leadership.


Chris Berry, MD, Medical Director, Geisinger Life Flight

Dr. Berry completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania and fellowship in Emergency Medical Services at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Most recently he was medical director of Guthrie Air, located in Sayre, Pennsylvania. He currently works as an EMS Physician in central Pennsylvania at the Geisinger Health System.

Brad Cramer, Clinical Quality Manager, GMR.

Brad is a Clinical Quality Manager for Global Medical Response with over 15 years of leadership experience in clinical management, education, system design, project development and implementation, quality improvement science, and stakeholder engagement. Trained in the IHI Model for Improvement and LEAN/Six Sigma for Healthcare he is on the faculty for the Quality and Safety Course through NAEMSP. He led his agencies participation in the NEMSQA Lights and Siren Collaborative and shares his QI expertise and experience to support other NEMSQA members in their quality improvement journey and is an active member of the measure implementation and measure analysis and research committees. His approach to improvement has earned him the title of The Community Builder. He is also the creator and host of the QI Punks podcast.


Hands on Cardiopulmonary Anatomical Airway Lab       $29

You won’t want to miss this interactive, hands-on dissection lab filled with numerous critical care procedures to perform. Review the pathophysiology of the trauma Killers. During this hands-on dissection lab the participant will gain a better understanding of anatomy and physiology using discarded hog heart and lungs.

Main Presenter: Sharon J. Purdom, RN, BSN, CFRN, CEN ,NREMT – National Flight Nurse, Clinical Coach, Med-Trans Corp

Sharon started her critical care career over thirty years ago, then fulfilled her dream of becoming a flight nurse over twenty years ago. She spent many years teaching Farm Safety, ENCARE, PALS, ACLS, PHTLS and an instructor for paramedic class. 

Sharon has served on the Air and Surface Transport Nursing Association for many years and currently in the role of Board of Director. Sharon has presented nationally to flight programs across the country on topics including resilience, mindfulness, and compassion fatigue. She has presented numerous conferences including the Air Medical Transport Conference providing hands on education to healthcare in an interactive cardiopulmonary lab.

She believes in encouraging, inspiring and to always continue learning. Sharon’s proudest achievement is her daughter’s both following in her path as trauma nurses, pediatric clinical coordinators and educators for EMS. Sharon believes that each of us have a special talent to share. Together we can encourage, promote, mentor, and learn from each other. She believes it is a privilege to care for a patient. Compassion is her trademark, crediting Mother Teresa as her most significant mentor. 


Co-Presenter: Christopher Hunter, NRP, FP-C, CCP – Flight Paramedic, National Float Team, Med-Trans Corp.


Christopher has over 15 years of flight experience on both rotor and fixed wing aircraft, along with 25 total years of EMS service. Having worked in both rural and tertiary healthcare settings, in his home state of Iowa as well as across the country as a member of the National Float Team for Med-Trans Corp, he is well-rounded and understands the related challenges unique to both critical care transport and rural medicine. Chris enjoys teaching the skills and concepts he has acquired through his experiences over the years and has seen success as a Clinical Coach for Med-Trans, mentoring many new employees.
