Have you ever thought how much that we ask of our clinicians on critical care transport? They are task saturated between advanced pharmacology, ventilator management, clinical procedures, and lab interpretations (just to name a few) all while being asked to expedite the patient from a scene or interfacility transport within an expected amount of time. No pressure at all! This 30 minute lecture describing what cognitive load is to clinicians, the implementation of simulation development designed to help improve working memory of the clinician to better address it under stress, and the utilization of technology within the medical transport equipment to minimize task saturation, will all be discussed in this session.
Learning Objectives:
Define cognitive load and its importance while transporting patients.
Define task saturation and its potential negative outcomes to patient care as clinical educators.
Demonstrate the use mitigation strategies to reduce the cognitive load while transporting patients.
