Pediatric All Cause Shock: Systematic Approach to Early Identification and Resuscitation

Pediatric shock remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Vast number of children require interfacility transport to Pediatric tertiary centers for critical care intervention. Early identification and rapid resuscitation have been associated with improved outcome. Transport teams have a unique opportunity to facilitate improved outcome through the application of goal directed therapies aimed at shock reversal. The presentation will review the approach to early identification of shock. Best practice approaches to early goal directed therapies will be discussed. The lecture will conclude with a review of the current literature regarding the incidence of shock and its outcome in children.
