The Air Methods Health and Wellness team recently took a closer look at injuries and noticed most occurred while loading and unloading patients, along with other activities that involve lifting. Air Methods collaborated with our workers compensation underwriter, Starr Aviation, and Injury Preventions Systems to create an ergonomics training specific to our teammates and airframes. As part of the project, the health and wellness team took video footage of teammates loading and unloading the various airframes within our fleet, loading and unloading ground ambulances, and different activities required by our Mechanics and Pilots. Using artificial intelligence, the video footage was analyzed to determine which activities posed a risk for injury and how those risks could be mitigated. The information gathered was put into an ergonomics training course to help decrease on the job injuries. This session will be an overview of the ergonomic project that was created and the impact it has had with our teammates.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to describe what physical motions contribute to on-the-job injuries in the Air Medical industry.
Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help identify activities that can cause on-the-job injuries in the Air Medical industry.
Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the components of an ergonomic training curriculum.
