This session will use case studies and clinical exams to highlight how the management of a pediatric trauma patient is different than an adult. Content will include a discussion on pitfalls of the pediatric airway, cuffed vs uncuffed ETT, differences in pediatric airway anatomy, tips for successful intubation and more. It will also introduce SIPA scores, define shock in children, discuss crystalloid vs blood product resuscitation and provide a brief review of literature on crystalloid vs blood components vs whole blood in children.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to properly position a pediatric patient for intubation
Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize hemorrhage shock in a pediatric patient and know dose and type of blood product to give for resuscitation
Upon completion, participant will know to place all children at risk in a Ccollar and to wait until a patient has been cleared by a pediatric specialty provider before removal.
