Session Description : Vasopressor use in trauma is a controversial topic with no clear and definitive guidance for their use and implementation into clinical practice in general, much less in the prehospital environment. How does one make an evidence based decision when the evidence is not clear? This presentation will unpack the physiology we are contending with in hemorrhagic shock patients and provide a set of clinical contexts where vasopressors have a role in restoring perfusion for these patients.
Learning Objectives:
Define the three forms of permissive hypotension and their clinical application in hemorrhagic shock.
Describe the difference between the symptho-excitatory and sympatho-inhibited phase in hemorrhagic shock.
Apply concepts of vasopressor support in hemorrhagic shock.
