This session will provide emergency medical service (EMS) personnel with critical knowledge and skills necessary to manage newborns delivered in the field. Participants will learn how to assess and stabilize newborns during prehospital delivery, address common complications, and perform essential interventions to ensure the best possible outcomes for the infant. Emphasis will be placed on resuscitation techniques, maintaining newborn thermoregulation, and prioritizing airway management. Attendees will also explore real-world scenarios to reinforce learning and prepare for rapid, effective decision-making in emergency settings.
Learning Objectives:
Describe how to assess the condition of a newborn delivered in the field, including identify key interventions such as suctioning, warming, and stimulation.
Implement skills to perform neonatal resuscitation, including positive pressure ventilation and chest compressions, following current guidelines for newborn resuscitation.
Recognize common complications such as neonatal hypothermia, respiratory distress, and apply appropriate field management strategies to mitigate these issues effectively.
