Sherry McCool currently serves as the as the Senior Director of Patient Progression at Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH) and is leading development of the first hospital operational center for a free-standing pediatric hospital. Sherry has been at CMH for approximately 30 years with most of that time working in Critical Care Transport. During her years of service at CMH Sherry led the Children’s Mercy Critical Care Transport Team to be one of the leading neonatal, pediatric, and maternal transport teams in the county. Sherry has a strong passion for executing lean processes in a high reliability environment and has years of experience in empowering multi-disciplinary teams to engage in innovation and quality. Sherry has a background in Lean methodologies, Error Prevention techniques, Just Culture, and management of High Reliability Systems. Sherry has a Master of Health Care Administration, is a certified Medical Transport Leadership Executive and holds a certificate in Health Care Leadership from the Henry W Bloch School of Management. Sherry led teams that developed the first nationally recognized critical care transport standards and the first neonatal and pediatric transport certification exam. She has served on regional and national committees for critical care transport, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC), pediatric disaster response, transfer center/dispatch centers, quality collaboratives, benchmarking, and transport regulatory boards. Sherry has spoken nationally on topics such as, safety, communications, quality improvement and regulatory preparedness. She was recently recognized by the US Dept of Health and Human Services for her involvement in the EMSC National Pediatric Readiness Quality Collaborative. Sherry has also been recognized as the American Association for Respiratory Care as Transport RT of the year and received the CMH Excellence in Leadership Award.
