Ira J. Blumen, MD

Ira Blumen has been involved in HEMS since 1985 and has been the UCAN program/medical director since 1987. He is the editor of the AMPA textbook “Principles and Direction of Air Medical Transport.” Since 2000, he has been a leader is HEMS safety research, updating this critical data and information on an annual basis. Dr. Blumen has held numerous leadership positions in air medical transport and has received several safety awards. He is a frequent lecturer and has published dozens of articles and chapters. His HEMS safety research has been presented at over 20 AMTC conferences, CCTMC, the AMPA Core Curriculum, and numerous air medical programs and state organizations. Relative to this presentation, he is the initiator of the research project and lead researcher.
