Charlie Swearingen, affectionately known as Charlie, hails from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where he was born to Gene and Jan Swearingen. Despite being an amputee from birth, Charlie never let his disability hinder his ambitions. He graduated from Millsaps College in 1995 and soon after pursued paramedic training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMC). His career took a significant leap when he became a flight paramedic for UMC's AirCare, a role that saw him providing critical aid during Hurricane Katrina.
Charlie's contributions to air medical transport are notable, including several peer-reviewed publications and is working on a PhD in physiology. In 2007, he founded Meducation Specialists (now called MeduPros), revolutionizing critical care education with online certification programs and innovative simulation games. His diverse career also led him to volleyball, where, after being invited by USA Volleyball in 2010, he achieved his dream of competing in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
Today, Charlie is a leading figure in critical care education, working with North American Rescue and collaborating globally to train military special forces. He dedicates time to Chive Charities as a board member and is a motivational speaker. Residing in Brandon, MS, with his wife, Marge, and daughter, Isla, Charlie is completing his PhD, training with USA Volleyball, and has returned to flying with AirCare, serving Mississippi's community.
