Michael is the founder and President of VyClimb Consulting, LLC, a boutique consultancy providing management, strategy, operations, and safety advisory services to a global list of clients centered around the aviation and air medical transport industries since 2015. He is a CAMTS board member and serves on the CAMTS Aviation & Safety Advisory Committee, ASTNA Safety Committee, and former chair of the VAI Flight Operations Working Group. Michael is a sought-after speaker, coach, and mentor, and was previously awarded the Jim Charlson Safety Award from the Association of Air Medical Services for his contributions to aviation safety.
Michael was a guest speaker at AIRMED 2018 in Warsaw, Poland for the European HEMS & Air Ambulance Committee (EHAC), has presented multiple times at Heli-Expo, AMTC, CHC Safety & Quality Summit, NTSB Training Academy, and the Air Medical System Conference in Shanghai, China. He has been a faculty lecturer for the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) at their graduate level Safety Management Training Academy (SMTA) and Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI) courses.
Michael earned a bachelor’s degree in professional aeronautics and two master’s degrees in aeronautical science and business administration. He has worked for Air Methods Corporation as a helicopter and NVG check pilot, Aviation Training Manager, and the Director of Aviation Compliance. Serving as a member of Air Methods’ aviation accident Go-Team, Michael has been a lead investigator and party member in five major NTSB helicopter accident investigations. Michael served in the Army as a Korean linguist and interrogator before transitioning to become an OH-58D armed reconnaissance helicopter instructor pilot and master gunner, completing a peacekeeping deployment to Bosnia and combat operations in Iraq.
