When Dogs Fly: Air Medical Transport for Operational K9's

Developed and implemented a transport service for operational K9's needing emergent medical care or who are injured in the line of duty for the state of Utah. Session will give and overview of how Intermountain Life Flight coordinated the development of this program with local veterinarians, specialized animal hospitals and public safety agencies. Currently, operational K9's are used for a variety of front-line work for numerous public safety, including search and rescue, police, fire, narcotics division and transportation security administration. Life Flight identified the need to provide emergency medical services for our very large and under served K9 population. Operational K9's are highly trained and valuable to our public safety agencies as well as the communities they serve. Intermountain Life Flight is the third air medical transport program of its kind in the nation, designated to care and provide rapid transport for operational K9's needing critical care veterinary services.
