Matthew Amidon completed his medical school training at Midwestern University, the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2014. From there, he completed his pediatric residency at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. While in residency, he developed a keen interest in critical care, transport medicine, and pediatric cardiology. In 2017, he embarked on his critical care training at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His clinical and academic experience guided his decision to pursue advanced training in cardiac critical care. Along with the mentorship provided by medical faculty, the numerous patients, and families he worked with during his 4 years of fellowship and sub-fellowship impacted he desire to not only care for their medical process, but investigate the diagnostic and management practices, with the expectation to improve not only mortality, but reduce morbidity. The overall objective being to provide the best possible opportunity for these amazing kids to live long and happy lives. After completing his clinical training in 2021, Dr. Amidon continued as an assistant professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and clinical faculty in the Cardiac ICU at Children’s Wisconsin. His clinical and academic interests continued to grow and develop with a specific focus on pre-hospital / transport management and overall outcomes. He has led many clinical practice changes in the cardiac ICU, concentrating on sedation practices and neuro monitoring. He has also developed education curriculums in both transport medical control and bedside nursing sedation evaluation. He devotes a significant amount of his academic time to the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and nurse practitioners. He leads the Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support course at CW, sponsored by the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Finally, he recently was assigned director of Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in the PICU.
